Our Current Activities
Throughout the year, we run a changing programme of events to empower our families, build skills, and provide opportunities to enjoy life. Get in touch today to enquire about activities and events in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, and throughout the North East.
Children’s Activities
Usually run from our activities, our wide selection of children’s activities is suitable for all young people, including disabled children, their siblings, and their peers. In general, parents are required to stay to supervise and support their child/young person, but all our activities are run by experienced and qualified staff and volunteers who have undergone the necessary checks and training to keep children safe.
Activities include:
- Arts and Crafts
- Games
- Cooking
- Music
Check back on this page and our upcoming events for additional information.
Gardening
In our allotment in South Shields (near the mosque, just off Laygate), we have five raised beds for gardening. During the growing seasons, we host regular group sessions where families can plant, tend, and finally harvest a variety of vegetables.
This is a fun opportunity to learn new skills and develop an understanding of where our food comes from, as we share and celebrate harvest time together. What’s more, all of our raised beds are wheelchair accessible, and we have suitable tools for children to use.
Gardening sessions run every other Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. – please get in touch with Rox at the office for more details. Please note that the allotment does not have a toilet, and families should bring water to drink on warm days.

Family Trips and Events
New Hope North East hosts seasonal events and embarks upon trips throughout the year. In general, these events and trips are as inclusive as possible (recognising that sometimes we have to choose between the accessibility needs of two different groups) and across the year, we aim to provide activities that are suitable for all families.
Parent/Carer Support and Wellbeing Forum
Our parent/carer forum is a space run by parents for parents. At present, we host occasional meetings to touch base with parents and carers, but we hope to secure additional funding in the future. If so, we hope to expand this important part of our work to include information and wellbeing days.
