Mission Statement
At New Hope North East, we advocate for an inclusive world where all children are loved, valued, safeguarded, and treated equally with dignity regardless of their disability, and are empowered to thrive in a safe world free from segregation, marginalisation, deprivation, and social exclusion, to help them enjoy life and fulfil their potential.
How We Started
Elizabeth Sunduzwayo founded New Hope North East in 2016, in response to the barriers that she observed and struggled against in getting support for her disabled son as a person from an ethnic minority background. She recognised that ethnic minority families are not accurately or adequately represented or supported in many areas, with the challenges of families affected by disability impacted even more severely due to stereotypes and stigma. She aimed to create a space where these social barriers are removed, and families with disabled children and young people can take their rightful place in society.
Where We Are Now
Thanks to the determination of the founders and our trustees, and the generosity of our funders, we continue to grow and develop our offer in response to the needs of our members. The COVID-19 lockdown meant that many of our activities had to move online, but we are back to running in-person activities for children and their families.
